William O. Douglas Federal Courthouse

DESCRIPTION: The William O. Douglas Federal Building was built in 1912 and is listed on the National Historic Register. This building is an excellent example of Second Renaissance Revival architecture, a classically inspired and dignified style that conveyed the stability of the federal government.

This project included design of a fire alarm system replacement within the building which still operates as a federal courthouse and includes a branch of the US Marshals. Specific courtrooms are architecturally sensitive and required detailed requirements for device placement. Design challenges included device placement and conduit concealment around many of the historic architectural features, including the many beamed and coffered ceilings of the main courtrooms hallways. Additional requirements included providing interface and auxiliary voice command center locations within the US Marshal’s office to allow for supplemental notification and control during emergency situations.

Lakeland Village Campus Nurse Call Replacement

DESCRIPTION: :akeland Village is a state operated 24-hour facility that provides all facets of training, education and health care for about 250 individuals with developmental disabilities.

Lakeland Village is federally certified for 60 Nursing Facility (NF) beds and 190 Intermediate Care Facility/Mental Retardation (ICF/MR) beds.

This project included design of nurse call systems for the South Campus licensed facilities, along with central reporting of each building’s systems. Project design included modifications to the existing campus fiber optic network.

Eastern State Hospital, FSU Security System Improvements

DESCRIPTION: This project started as a study to provide options for the replacement of the existing low voltage security electronics systems within the Forensic Services Unit of the Eastlake Building. The study and report identified current available technologies, and provided a cost implementation plan to develop the project for funding in the next biennium State funding cycle.

After funding was secured, design documents were prepared, and construction administration services provided for remodeling of the existing systems to provide new low voltage security electronics systems, including the following:

Door control systems.
CCTV systems.
Intercom and Paging systems.
Access control systems.
Network infrastructure.
UPS Systems.

Eastern State Hospital, Westlake Building

LOCATION: Medical Lake, Washington

DESCRIPTION: Design of multiple projects for the Eastern State Hospital campus, with multiple projects within the Westlake Building. The major projects for the Westlake Building include:

Fire Alarm and Nurse Call Systems Replacement.
Generator Replacement.
Building Lighting Upgrades.

The Fire Alarm and Nurse Call Replacement project included the removal and replacement of both the fire alarm and nurse call systems within the existing secure psychiatric hospital. Elevator recall and electrical systems where modified to provide necessary code required interfaces to the fire alarm system. This project also included revising the network of the existing fire alarm control system on the Eastern State Hospital campus so that the new fire alarm system could connect to the campus network.

The Generator Replacement project removed and replaced the existing 25 year old 500kW diesel fueled generator.

The Building Lighting Upgrade project included the replacement of both the existing lighting systems in all five (5) patient wards and selected areas within the remainder of the rest of the psychiatric hospital. Moreover, patient room lighting systems were upgraded to include overbed fixtures for nighttime use; ward dayroom lighting controls were added for energy efficiency; and occupancy sensors were added to office and conference rooms.

San Mateo County Maple Street Correctional Facility

DESCRIPTION: The San Mateo Jail Planning Committee has selected PCI, in conjunction with CML RW Security and Cache Valley Electric as low voltage security electronics designers and contractors for the San Mateo County Replacement Jail in Redwood City, California. The architectural design of this facility is being designed by the HO+K San Francisco office. The CMAR project will be delivered thru a joint venture between Sundt and Layton Construction. BIM modeling was provided, LEED Silver. Design included the following systems:

Cell and movement door control systems.
CCTV system.
Digital audio systems, including PDA communications interface.
Access control systems.
Network infrastructure
UPS Systems.

Unitarian Universalist Church Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System

DESCRIPTION: PCI was approached by the Chairman of the Church’s Solar Committee to discuss the design and construction of a large roof mounted Photovoltaic System (PV) to help the Church realize their renewable energy goals. The Solar Committee had been working with several other local engineers and contractors in the area to help build momentum for the project within the congregation. PCI was committed from the start to explore variations of system sizes and methods for maximizing the power production of the system while maintaining a competitive proposal which made the project financially feasible.

The Church had originally raised money to complete the solar array through donations made by members of the congregation but then soon realized that a partnership with Washington Based Non-Profit Sustainable Works would allow them access to financing options to increase the size of the solar array. Sustainable Works was able to secure additional financing for the project while taking on the role as the non-profit general contractor.

At the time, this installation represented the largest Church based photovoltaic (PV) solar array in Washington State.

This project consisted of adding 18.75kW of roof mounted solar photovoltaic panels. The installation included 75 SolarWorld 250W panels along with individual Enphase M215 micro inverters for each panel.

SCC Building 7 Renovation, Jenkins Wellness Center

DESCRIPTION:

This project included remodel of the existing Science building to incorporate the following functions:

Radiology Technology and Biomedical Equipment Technicians.
Student Health and WellnessCenter.
Physical Education and Speech.
Computer Services Department.

The Computer Services Department remodel included a new data room to house the relocation of the campus servers. The Radiology Technology included infrastructure for multiple imaging devices including X-Ray, MRI, and CT Scan devices. LEED Gold.

Providence Holy Family Hospital, Surgery and Oncology Addition

DESCRIPTION: This project included a 42,000 square foot expansion of the surgery suites, new pre-operative and phase 2 post-operative facilities, and a remodel of the Oncology Department. In addition, a new 4 story, 66,000 square foot medical office building was interconnected to the Oncology Expansion.

Electrical design included extension of existing normal and emergency power systems, extension of the existing fire alarm and nurse call systems, lighting, grounding, and provisions for future data/telephone, security, and CATV systems.

Modifications were made to the existing central plant equipment including addition of a new chiller and supporting equipment (cooling tower, VFD’s, chilled water pumps, and machine room emergency ventilation equipment); and modifications to the existing hot water heating systems including addition new pumping equipment and VFD’s.

Special design challenges included designing the Holy Family Catheterization Lab upgrade which utilized the same systems as the Surgery and Oncology Expansion as well as maintaining continuity of operations for the Catheterization Lab during the upgrade.

Fire Station #4

DESCRIPTION: This station consisted of 4 apparatus bays, sleeping rooms for 8 individuals, a full service kitchen, workout/training room, separate alert, maintenance and decontamination centers, offices, library and a public conference area.

Southern Nevada Women’s Correction Center

DESCRIPTION: The project includes providing a 55,000 square foot addition on the existing 140,000 square foot facility. The addition contains 160 cells, single bed for housing and a secure medical wing with 12 additional beds. The existing perimeter fence was extended to include the new cellblocks.

The security electronics design includes design of a new, fully redundant touchscreen system for each new housing control room and the existing central control room, including database server within the low voltage electronics room. The touchscreen system was integrated to a programmable logic controller (PLC) for door controls, a digital audio intercom and paging system, a perimeter fence detection system and a CCTV system, with motion detection, that also included a network video recording (NVR) system. The new security electronics system was separated from the existing electronics system.

The existing PIR perimeter fence system was removed and as the perimeter fence was being extended, was replaced with a fence shaker detection system, extended to cover the entire perimeter. Along the new fence perimeter, a new CCTV system was provided.

Low voltage electronics rooms were designed with modular UPS systems connected to a generator backed source to ensure continuous security system operation.

Grant County PUD, Wanapum Maintenance Facility, Phase II

DESCRIPTION: This project renovates the existing 62,400 square foot fabrication shop with new offices and a renovated shop space, which includes lathes, milling machines, rolling tables, a plasma and water jet cutter, band saws, hydraulic benders and presses, and two overhead cranes. A 12,000 square foot extension was added to the building for additional welding shop space which also includes relocation of the existing 30 ton crane.

Electrical design consisted of normal and emergency power systems, lighting, lighting control, equipment connection, grounding, data/telephone wiring, fire alarm, and security systems.

A separate storage building and fuel island were also part of the project design.

California Health Care Facility

DESCRIPTION: The California Health Care Facility Stockton is an intermediate-level medical and mental health care facility for inmate-patients within the California State prison system. This new facility is comprised of inmate-patient housing (1,722 Beds), diagnostic and treatment centers, a central utility plant, central kitchen, materials service center, and facility support areas to total 1.2 Million GSF.
The project includes developing bridging and criteria documents, work plans, and system layout for California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to delineate technologies to be used in a new 1,722 bed medical and mental health prison on the existing Stockton prison campus. LEED Silver.
